My good biking friends, Chris and Dave, and me in Bellevue, Iowa, the end of RAGBRAI XXXV - 477 miles in 7 days! |
My name is Dr. Bruce Spitzer, and I'm excited to be the instructor for your section of the course.
I earned my doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction with emphases in Educational Technology and Foundations of Education from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. I also have a Master's degree in English from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas, and a Bachelor's in Speech and Drama from McPherson College, McPherson, Kansas.
I've worked in both education (I taught high school speech and drama for 6 years and was a community college English instructor for 9) and business (vice-president for a small distance learning training company).
When I'm not doing school stuff (OK, when are we not doing school stuff, huh?), I like to work crossword puzzles, mountain bike, and hike. I also really like to cook and bake. In the summers of 2006, 2007, and 2008, I participated in RAGBRAI, the Des Moines Register's Great Bike Ride Across Iowa!
And yes, I ride my bike to campus every day, even in the winter!
I am married to Gail. She's a yoga/Pilates teacher at Southold Dance Theatre and teaches Nutrition for IU South Bend. We have 3 cats (Marvin, Molly, and Maxine) and a dog, Chester.
